In Avonmouth, just three miles from Portishead, there are a number of companies handling chemicals and dangerous substances. Severnside Sirens are to warn the residents of Avonmouth and neighbouring towns and villages, like Portishead, of any incidents involving these substances. These sirens are tested on the third day of each month at 3pm. You can find out more about the sirens and what to do in an emergency at the link below.

Local business owners in Portishead are invited to attend an engagement event this November to help shape the future of transport hubs in their communities.

This event  will offer a chance for communities to influence the initial concept designs for these important transport facilities.

For communities, transport hubs are intended to offer useful facilities that make it easier and more appealing to travel on foot, by wheel and by bus – providing a connection point between these different forms of transport. They also offer an attractive focal point for communities, helping to boost town and village centres.

If you run a business in Portishead, please come along on the 6 November and directly shape the designs for the transport hub.

Remembrance Day Parade and Church Service at St Peter's Church.

10:15am - Parade assembles at the High Street, near Stoke Road
10:45am - The Act of Remembrance will begin
11:00am - Two minutes silence will begin
11:05am - Parade moves off via the High Street

Please avoid parking in the High Street and all along the parade route.

ROAD CLOSURES will be in place between 9:45am-12:15pm.

Any vehicles not moved before 9:45am will not be permitted legally to move until the roads are re-opened at 12:15pm.

Roads affected will be Portishead High Street between Church Road South and Combe Road, Stoke Road, Church Road South with restricted access to the High Street at Brampton Way and Church Road North. Diversions will be via St Peters Road, Slade Road and Combe Avenue.

The two parking bays in front of Coffi Lab will be closed. They will be barriered from Thursday 9 November evening until Monday 13 November.

A talk organised by Gordano Civic Society about Edward Long Fox MD 1761-1835, Mental Health pioneer and radical in the Age of Enlightenment, given by Dinah Moore.

Speakeasy Jazz Club are thrilled to welcome four-times Grammy nominated and extraordinary saxophonist Greg Abate. He was voted in the top two alto players in the world by Downbeat magazine. His CD, ‘Magic Dance’, topped the US jazz charts for over a year! It is a celebration of the music of Kenny Baron, recorded and arranged by Greg Abate, and performed alongside Kenny Baron himself.  

As well as performing with The Artie Shaw Band, he was musical director and lead alto sax player for The Ray Charles Orchestra! With a list of credits that puts him among the jazz greats, he was also inducted into the Rhode Island Hall of Fame in 2016. Greg Abate is an exceptional master of all the saxes and flute and plays with such passion, artistry and style, swinging with an eager and easy virtuosity.

He spends 200 days a year touring the globe and we are truly honoured and thrilled to have this wonderful jazz master come to entertain us here at Speakeasy all the way from the USA as part of his UK tour. His last two visits completely sold out so book early to avoid disappointment.

Portishead Christmas Lights Presents our 50th Anniversary Celebration

This year’s switch on event will take place from 6pm on Monday 25th November outside Masterkey in the Precinct on our High Street.

TV and radio presenter, Ian Downsy Downs, will entertain with music and banter before leading the countdown to the switch on around 6:45, alongside Santa and other guests. This will be followed by a firework finale.

Santa, who will be escorted through the High Street from Clarence House by our local fire fighters, police and coastguards, is expected to arrive at The Precinct, accompanied by his trusted helpers, at around 6.15pm. They will be happy to take letters for Santa from children before and after the switch on and there will also be a Santa post box in Goodman and Lilley estate agents opposite the stage.

Parents and carers please note – children should include their name and address on any letters they have for Santa if they would like a reply, he and his elves like to reply to every single one.

It’s worth noting the High Street from the Wyndham Way to Stoke Road, will be closed during this event. 

For those new to the event the crowds are huge so if you want to get up close you’ll need to arrive early.

Portishead Community Market on Saturday is returning to Portishead Youth & Community Centre on 30th November - in time for doing your Christmas shopping while supporting local businesses

There will be stalls from local businesses, organisations and charities showcasing the wonderful products and services they have on offer

The Community Café will be open for breakfast, snacks and drinks and there will be a raffle too!

Come along to support and celebrate the local community

Cludo Club and Gordano Valley Church are so excited to return to Noah's Ark once again this year for a wonderful pop-up Nativity.  Come and join the fun as we celebrate the greatest Christmas story ever told!  If you want to dress up, costumes are provided, or bring your own.  Please come at 10:40 so you have time to arrive and get dressed up before the performance at 11am.  There will be free craft, where you get to make your own lanterns to take home.  There will also be photo opportunities with the gorgeous stable background, where you can create your perfect family selfie!

Tickets are £8 per person, which is an amazing saving on the gate price (usually £24 adult, £22 child).  Tickets will entitle you to join the Nativity and then stay at the Zoo all day, enjoying the animals, play areas, cafe, animal talks.  Simply turn up on the day before 11am and show the flier above, or quote CLUDONATIVITY to get this special price.  The Zoo opens from 10:30-5pm.  Find out more about what to expect there at: www.noahsarkzoofarm.co.uk
